Hell Hath No Fury...

Like a Kentucky basketball coach scorned.

(What? It's the only picture I could find....)

Tonight’s uk/Vanderbilt match-up promises to provide a particular type of awkwardness that will draw me to ESPN at 9:00 to watch these teams square off.

No, maybe not like a 41-11 halftime score type of awkwardness like we saw in 2008, or even the type of awkwardness that was achieved when the mighty kay-uts went 0-2 against the bottom-feeding Commodores back in 2007.

I’m talking about the type of awkwardness that exists only between a scorned basketball coach and the object of that contempt.

Ladies and Gentlemen, are you ready for Gillispie vs. Edwards, Round III?

In case you missed it, uk coach Billy Gillispie has – twice now – been less than accommodating with regard to questions posed to him by ESPN sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards at halftime.

The oddity that is Billy Gillispie and his courtside mannerisms has sparked much humor, in both the screenplay and the musical variety.

There’s also been much speculation as to why, exactly, Billy Clyde feels compelled to abuse Ms. Edwards. Is it impatience? Just poor interview etiquette? Sheer arrogance?

No. There’s more.

Multiple sources are reporting that Jeannine Edwards spurned Billy Clyde’s advances, which is why Gillispie continually ridicules and demeans her during her halftime interviews.

I couldn’t make this stuff up.

Apparently, Gillispie asked Ms. Edwards out on a date and she pulled a Billy Donavon/Rick Barnes – which, as you folks from Kentucky Sports Radio know, means she turned him down.

Now, the folks at ESPN – bless their hearts – have assigned Ms. Edwards to work tonight’s game in Nashville, where last season uk suffered its worst SEC loss in its proud history.

Should be an interesting subplot to what’s expected to be a close game, as the kay-uts are favored by 2.

On a more “responsible journalism” note, it’s still unknown whether Patrick Patterson will play. He sprained his ankle against Florida last Tuesday. Or something like that.

That’s all for now. Carry on.
