As was mentioned here last week and was confirmed by the Atlanta Journal Constitution today, Charlie Strong has filled out his first coaching staff with Brian Jean-Mary who spent the last 6 seasons with Georgia Tech linebackers coach. Jean-Mary (pronounced Jon-Muree) will serve as assistant head coach and linebackers coach on Strong's staff. He spent time in 2000 on the Louisville staff under coach John L. Smith as assistant strength-and-conditioning coach. Jean-Mary commented to the AJC on how tough the decision was to leave Tech
"Always scary when you are going from a team that just won its conference
to a team that hasn't gone to a bowl in two years," Jean-Mary said. "[My] career
goal is to be a head coach one day. That was the No. 1 reason why I left. I have
a lot of love for Tech, it's a special place."
Jean-Mary, a Haitian American, will have a young unit that just picked up some good talent on signing day in Deon Rogers & Preston Brown to add to returning starter Brandon Heath and young up-and-comers Mike Privott and Horace Miller. He'll have his hands full, but judging by the class in which he left Tech, he will be a great fit with Strong's staff. Only 51 days until Spring practice...
