Garcia Gets a 5yr Deal

Former Louisville Cardinal Francisco Garcia got a big contract extension today with the Sacramento Kings. Francisco is a three year NBA veteran who had his best season so far last year. Part of that is because former Louisville Assistant Coach Reggie Theus became the King’s head coach last season.

Last year Garcia averaged 12.3 ppg, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 75 games. Over the off season Sacramento traded SF Ron Artest to the Houston Rockets. This gives Garcia a good opportunity to compete with six year vet John Salmons for the starting SF position.

On the Sacramento Kings website Garcia said this about his extension, “I feel great. It’s good to know that I’m going to be here for years to come. This is a great organization that’s moving in the right direction. We have the best owners in the league. Our general manager is one of the best. And we have a good coaching staff with a lot of talented players. I’m looking forward to the upcoming season.”

It has been reported by ESPN.com that Garcia has signed a four year $23 million deal with a $7 million option for a fifth year.
