University of Louisville women’s basketball All-American Angel McCoughtry
leads the nation in steals and today has been rewarded for that feat.
The 6-foot-1 senior was named Defensive Player of the Year in the Big
East Conference, also garnering first-team All-conference
honors.
McCoughtry was joined on the 11-player first-team All-Conference by
her teammate – senior Candyce Bingham. Undefeated Connecticut had three players
on the first team – Maya Moore, Renee Montgomery and Tina Charles.
McCoughtry is the first Louisville player to earn Big East Defensive Player of the Year honors. For the third straight year, McCoughtry leads the league in points per
game (26.6), rebounds (10) and steals (78), becoming the first player in
conference history to achieve the feat. She is also first in defensive rebounds
(124).
Last year, McCoughtry was named Big East Player of the Year. That
award will be announced on Friday at the Big East Tournament in Hartford,
Conn.
